Project Vehicles
2003 Ford Cobra with Whipple supercharger running 19 psi:
Dual FD series Interceptor gauges part number FD502
Aeroforce 130 psi Oil Pressure kit part number Sens001
Wide band O2 sensor kit connected to Interceptor analog input
Aeroforce 3 bar MAP kit to measure boost, part # Sens005
Boost is monitored on the Interceptor gauge, as is oil pressure, A/F ratio, and
all of the vital OBD2 engine/fuel parameters such as fuel pressure, intake air
temp, post intercooler air temp., mass air flow sensor counts, ignition
advance, fuel injector duty cycle, etc. We are able to log A/F ratio vs rpm on
the gauge during track runs to keep the fueling at safe levels while running 19
psi on pump gas.
We’ve set the gauge’s LED alarms to illuminate if oil pressure falls below 20
psi, and if RPMS exceed 6100 – this acts as a shift light. Since the gauge
updates more than 10x per second this makes for a very accurate and easy to
use shift light. Sometimes we will alarm on low fuel pressure instead of oil
pressure.
2004 SRT-4 Stage 3:
Dual SR series Interceptor gauges part number SR202
Aeroforce EGT amplifier part number Sens008
Aeroforce EGT sensor part number Sens007
Aeroforce 130 psi Oil Pressure kit part number Sens001
Wide band O2 sensor kit connected to Interceptor analog input
Aeroforce 3 bar MAP kit to measure boost, part # Sens005
This is our test vehicle for many of our products. The dual Interceptor gauges
display the actual EGT temp. 2” downstream of the turbo, A/F ratio, boost up to
29 psi, oil pressure, and all of the vital OBD2 engine/fuel parameters such as
knock retard (short term, long term, total), intake and ambient air temp,
ignition spark advance, base spark, spark adjustment, fuel injector duty cycle,
etc. We can bump up the boost while running race gas until safe levels of
knock are detected. We use a MAP clamp and can adjust this while
monitoring A/F ratio on the gauge.
We use the LED warning lights to indicate knock levels above 3 degrees, and
A/F ratio above 12.
2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer SS with Magnacharger running 7 psi:
Dual CN series Interceptor gauges part number CN202
Aeroforce 2 bar MAP kit to measure boost, part # Sens004
Aeroforce Fluid Temp sensor kit part # Sens013
Wide band O2 sensor kit connected to Interceptor analog input
Aeroforce 12v relay output module
The Interceptor gauges are very useful on this vehicle. We were able to
perform a CASE relearn when we first received our PCM to go with the
supercharger. We monitor boost, A/F ratio, intercooler fluid temperature, and
all of the vital OBD2 parameters such as oil pressure, knock retard, automatic
transmission temp., mass air flow sensor frequency, ignition advance, intake
air temperature, etc. Using a third party tuning package we use this data to
adjust the timing and fueling to safe levels. We monitor transmission
parameters such as torque management, shift time, and torque converter
duty cycle and use this data to tune the transmission with this third party
tuning software. We experimented with the intercooler tank placement and
size using the Aeroforce fluid temperature sensor to find an ideal location to
maximize its performance. We are able to keep the fluid within 20 degrees of
ambient now. We also use the Interceptor gauge to control our dual electric
fans using the optional Aeroforce output relay. The fans are turned on when
the coolant temperature exceeds 180 deg F.
The LED warning lights are set to alarm if knock retard exceeds 3 degrees,
and if the intake air temp (post intercooler) exceeds 140 degrees F.
2006 MazdaSpeed 6:
Single CNI series Interceptor gauge part number CNI401
Aeroforce Oil Pressure kit part number Sens001
Aeroforce Fluid Temp sensor kit part # Sens013
This daily driver is stock but sees occasional track use. We monitor oil
pressure and oil temp. using the Interceptor scan gauge and oil pressure
and temperature kits. These parameters are not available from the OBD2
data stream. We do monitor knock retard, fuel pressure, A/F ratio, intake air
temp., etc. via the OBD2 port. This is possible because this car has a factory
wideband O2 sensor.
2004 Pontiac Grand Prix Comp G:
Single PT series Interceptor scan gauge
We monitor boost, intake air temp, transmission temperature, current gear,
ignition advance, mass air flow frequency, knock retard, etc. We use this
information to tune the car with a third party tuner.
We monitor knock retard with the gauge’s annunciator function. If it exceeds 3
degrees the super-bright LEDs will light.
We can turn the electric fan on/off manually with the gauge, which comes in
handy at the track to cool the engine bay between runs. We also performed a
CASE relearn with the gauge when a new PCM was installed.
2005 Hummer H2:
Dual PT series Interceptor gauges part number PT202
While off-roading or towing we monitor transmission parameters such as
trans oil temp, torque, torque converter duty cycle, torque converter slip, and
current gear. We also are able to see the angle of attack or pitch of the
vehicle by accessing the vehicles longitudinal accelerometer. This can be
important as the vehicle should not be driven up a slope exceeding 45
degrees.
This vehicle is currently undergoing a Duramax LBZ motor swap. We’ll be
able to tune and monitor all of the diesel OBD2 parameters at this time, as
well as view dual EGTs, turbo boost, rear differential temperature, and nitrous
pressure if this is added.
We currently monitor transmission temperature and engine coolant
temperature with the gauge’s annunciator. If the trans temp goes above 215
the alarm will light, as well as coolant exceeding 225 deg. F.
2006 Chrysler 300c SRT8:
Dual CNF series gauges part number CNF202
Wide band O2 sensor kit connected to Interceptor analog input
Due to the large number of vital and interesting parameters available from the
PCM, this is probably the most useful application we have. Whether drag
racing or road racing, there is a plethora of parameters we can monitor to
help us analyze the performance of this vehicle.
The SRT8 currently has a 6.4L stroker, and soon will have twin
turbochargers. We can monitor knock retard with the gauge to determine
safe ignition advance levels. Air fuel ratio is displayed on the gauge thanks to
a connection to a wideband O2 sensor kit using the analog inputs.
Transmission parameters such as transmission oil temp, torque converter
slip, torque converter status (lock/unlock), and torque are monitored to keep
an eye on the health of the transmission.
When we used this car for road racing at Mid Ohio, we also monitored many
of the ABS/ESP system parameters such as brake line pressure, lateral
acceleration, body roll in degrees, and steering angle. This allowed us to
qualitatively measure the benefits of our suspension and brake mods.
The gauge also can manually turn on the low and high speed cooling fans
allowing us to cool the engine bay between runs. The gauge also will
completely turn off the ESP system so there is no interference during a run.
We can also reset the learned transmission parameters in the TCM
(transmission control module) so that we get redline shifts at wide open
throttle.
1998 Lincoln Mark VIII
Single FD series gauge part number FD501
Aeroforce Oil Pressure kit part number Sens001
Aeroforce Fuel Pressure kit part number Sens017
The Interceptor gauge is used to mainly monitor the engine oil pressure, fuel
pressure, MAF sensor counts, injector duty cycle, and intake air temps.
2008 Nissan Altima 3.5L SLE
Single prototype CNI series Interceptor gauge part number CNI101
Vehicle is currently stock. The Interceptor gauge is used to monitor mainly
transmission fluid temp, intake air temp, and to turn on/off the radiator cooling
fans at the track.
